“Everything in moderation, including moderation” — Oscar Wilde
Hello, my name is Sean Brady, and I am a helpless Bon Vivant.
A steady stream of Spaghetti Carbonara, a Negroni or two before lunch, downing crisp bottles of Vermentino by the pool, and countless charcuterie platters really add up. There’s a reason those ancient Romans lived to a ripe old age of 35! Less for the atonement of sins past, more for longevity, health, and hating what I saw in the mirror, I recently signed up for Weight Watchers’ digital plan (online)…in my 40’s.
To me, hooking up with Weight Watchers was obvious. EVERY other weight loss plan read unsustainable. After dozens of trips to Italy, France, Portugal and beyond, I wasn’t prepared to give up warm, yeasty bread, handmade wine, or comforting pasta. Yes, I adore bacon and cheese — but not as food groups. Simply put, a diet that completely (or drastically reduces) complete categories of food can only act for me as a temporary Band Aid — bearable for a few months, but then what happens??
In the world of foodies, foodist, and plain snobs, dieting seems unrealistic. Here, I hope to reveal to those who love to cook that weight loss doesn’t depend on grainy shakes or insipid microwaved meals. It can be more than slapping a few convenience foods together to create low-Point “cheats” or “hacks.” Delicious success is as simple as good technique, mindful eating, a bit of moderation, and shopping the very best ingredients.
